Sex-Positive Counseling

Name of Primary Practitioner
Maggie Hoop, LPCA, NCC
Business Excerpt
Being sex positive means understanding that sexual expression and experience is diverse. It means not judging others for their consensual sexual choices. Many people who participate in "alternative" sexual expression are afraid to go to therapy. They fear that the sexual practices they participate in, the relationships they have, or the communities to which they belong will be judged negatively, even pathologized (their behaviors or relationships will be automatically blamed for their problems). I am a sex-positive therapist. What this means for you as my client is that no matter how you express yourself sexually, I will be open, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable. It also means that I am committed to continually learning about human sexuality. Our knowledge of sexual expression is constantly growing and changing, and I intend on growing and changing along with it. I believe that all consensual sexual expression can be healthy and pleasurable. I believe that no one should be afraid that their therapist will judge them; Therapy cannot work where that fear exists.
