Hello! My name is Ash, and my pronouns are they/them/theirs. I am a queer licensed mental health counselor based out of NYS. I practice from a client-centered, strengths-based approach. I want to hear what you want to work on in life and help you build upon your existing strengths to make the changes you want to see. I believe you are the expert of your experience and I am a guide, here to assist you in reflecting upon those experiences and making connections. When needed, however, I will push you to challenge yourself to acknowledge your potential and reach new heights.
I primarily work with the LGBTQIA community, specializing in gender identity, expression, and transition. I am experienced with and can competently write letters in support of medical transition. I also specialize in sexuality and alternative lifestyles, including consensual non-monogamy/polyamory and kink/BDSM, with experience providing relationship counseling. I also have training and experience working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse, as well as those with anger management struggles, depression, and anxiety.
I utilize an eclectic, trauma-informed therapeutic strategy of CBT, DBT, and narrative therapies. My work focuses on examining our thinking, breaking down cycles, and building coping skills. I am a down-to-earth, open-minded person who is not afraid to be real with you. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is the crux of therapy. This therapeutic alliance is the most important factor, other than your own willingness, for creating change. I provide a warm and safe environment to come together to face your challenges, explore your inner workings, and encourage your personal development.
