Hi! My name is Ryan and I am a Genderqueer, Neurodivergent Counselor specializing in complex trauma work.
Relationships are at the heart of every important moment in our lives. Whether it be meaningful, beautiful, or traumatic. Through my years of work, I have found that relationships are the key to healing through trauma. By having positive, genuine, here-and-now moments of connections with others, we are able to heal past hurts and learn more about what we need and how we can go about helping ourselves live the best lives possible. And that's where the therapeutic relationship really shines.
With every patient I work with, I aim to find that genuine connection and make the relationship as safe as possible for everyone involved. Now, “patient” is a loaded term that some may not like, but let me explain. A "patient" is quite literally someone who suffers, which is basically everyone who’s ever lived. Whereas a "client" is someone who buys products and services for themselves, whiche centers the act of purchasing. This relationship we will build is not a transaction but a connection that cannot be bought.
Through this act of taking back the language of patient and re-contextualizing it, it is my goal to de-capitalize the therapeutic relationship and focus it back on the most important part of the work: your well-being.
While I may be the therapist with the knowledge and experience, you are the expert on you, which is exactly what we're working on. I will do everything I can to level out the natural power dynamic that comes into therapy. I am human just as you are and I just happened to know quite a bit about healing. I am on my own path through life and for an hour at a time, I can join you on yours and support you in the ways I can.
Through out our time together, we will collaborate and find our way of doing therapy to make sure we're continually working toward your well-being. While I will be providing structure to our conversations, you will be the one guiding our work, consciously or not.
I practice from a holistic perspective and incorporate your body, culture, sociopolitical position, and your life context into how I understand you as a person and how we proceed in therapy.
If you feel like you'd benefit from the work I do, feel free to email and we can set up a 20-30min consult call to make sure we're a good fit.
