Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diverisity
You deserve to know that all of who you are is respected and welcome in therapy.
You deserve a therapist who understands a range of sexualities, gender identities, and relationship styles and practices (e.g. kink, and open/poly relationships).
As a client in therapy, I’ve had negative experiences where who I am was not respected, problematised, or was pathologised.
Going through such painful and traumatising experiences as a client has taught me valuable lessons about how not to be a therapist. They have fuelled my commitment to working in ways that honour each person - staying curious and open. I’ve also had very positive and powerful healing in therapy with therapists who are affirming, empathic and genuine.
My approach is explorative, affirming, supportive and non-directive, meaning that we will work with whatever you chose to bring to the session. Therapy allows you the time and space to explore what matters to you and to find what you need, with the support of your therapist.
I’m in supervision with an Advanced GSRD (Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity) therapist and supervisor and I'm currently undertaking a certificate of study in GSRD therapy with Pink Therapy as well as participating in the UK’s first in-depth professional development training in working with clients who are in Open and Poly relationships - I only work with individuals at the moment.
The people I work with tell me they value my open mindedness, gentleness, warmth and compassion.
My approach to psychotherapy
My integrative approach is humanistic and integrates Gestalt and Feminist therapy among others.
A Feminist approach acknowledges the social and cultural influences of people’s pain and suffering due to living in a world dominated by a philosophy of individualism and a model of having “power over” others. Psychotherapy infused with a feminist perspective sees people as having equal worth regardless of their gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity, etc.
Gestalt therapy holds that people intrinsically strive towards growth and balance in their lives. It focuses on increasing your awareness of the "here and now" to facilitate a deeper understanding of yourself. It looks at your past experiences as they relate to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in the present.
Ultimately, my approach is tailored to you and the theory is in the background. What’s in the foreground is our therapeutic relationship, in which my core intention is allowing our relationship to serve you.
