She was certified in February 2015. After that she embarked on an intensive course of advanced study, with coursework from some of the most respected hypnotists in the United States and Europe. When experience matters. . . My training started long before any indication the path I was on would lead to a passion for psychotherapy. It started with me dropping out of college after 2 years. This led to a 3 month solo road trip that landed me at Bard College, where I fell in love with education and the learning environment. I enrolled and completed a Bachelors degree in Philosophy. While at Bard I met some amazing people who got together and started a student group called Sexual Minorities Aligned for Community Education and Support (S.M.A.C.E.S.). We gave workshops on toy making, brought scholars to campus for talks on the history of pain in ritual, and spread the word about the importance of safety and consent in sexual exploration. We threw a hell of a party. To my knowledge, this remains the only College funded kink-awareness student group ever. I'd love to hear of another one. Ten years later, while finishing a masters degree in Social Work, another amazing person came into my life in the form of a mentor, Judy Montgomery, LCSW, LCDC AASECT certified, trans- and kink-knowledgable, Exceptional Therapist. I graduated and she became my Supervisor therapy role-model. We worked at what was then the oldest and largest HIV clinic in Fort Lauderdale, FL, primarily serving the gay and transgender populations. Unable to find professional Continuing Education on the topic of treating Gender Identity variations, or working with Bi-sexual couples and thruples, we put together presentations and became continuing education providers. Fast forward another ten years to SoCo Counseling, where our mission is to provide high-quality, accessible, counseling services and to enable Exceptional Therapists to reach their full potential, while serving the needs of our clients with compassion, professionalism, and respect.
